Towards the use of the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI)

چکیده
The Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) is a UV/VISible spectrograph (270-500 nm). It employs two-dimensional arrays of CCD detectors for simultaneous registration of numerous spectra from ground pixels in the swath perpendicular to the flight direction. As a result, OMI provides (almost) daily global coverage in combination with small ground pixel sizes (nominally 13 x 24 km at nadir, minimum 13 x 12 km at nadir). The small ground pixels allow retrieval of tropospheric constituents. The OMI Flight Model is currently being integrated and will be launched on the Aura satellite in 2003 as part of NASA s Earth Observing System. This paper discusses relationships between and the details of the onground calibration approach of OMI, the data processing of level 0 data (raw data) to level 1b data (geophysical data) and the foreseen activities for in-flight calibration.

High-accuracy spectral-slit-function calibration measurements, in situ ambient absorption gas cell measurements for ozone and nitrogen dioxide, and ground-based zenith sky measurements with the Earth Observing System Aura Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) flight instrument are reported and the results discussed. For use of high-spectral-resolution gas absorption cross sections from the literatu...
متن کاملMonitoring of SO2 column concentration over Iran using satellite-based observations during 2005-2016
For the first time, sulfur dioxide concentration was monitored between 2005 and 2016 over Iran which is among the countries with a high SO2 emission rate in the world. To that end, SO2 column concentration at Planetary Boundary Layer (PBL) from Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) was analyzed. OMI is a sensor onboard the Aura satellite which can measure daily SO2 concentration on the global scale...
متن کاملReconstruction of Data Gaps in Total-Ozone Records with a New Wavelet Technique
This study introduces a new technique to fill and reconstruct daily observational of Total Ozone records containing void data for some days based on the wavelet theory as a linear time-frequency transformation, which has been considered in various fields of science, especially in the earth and space physics and observational data processing related to the Earth and space sciences. The initial c...
متن کاملValidation of the Aura Ozone Monitoring Instrument total column ozone product
[1] This paper is an overview of the validation of the total column ozone data products from the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) on board the NASA EOS-Aura satellite. OMI is an imaging UV/visible spectrometer that maps global ozone on a daily basis. There are two ozone products from OMI, one derived using the traditional TOMS retrieval algorithm and another derived using a Differential Optica...
متن کاملImproved tropospheric ozone profile retrievals using OMI and TES radiances
[1] We perform a study for characterizing the vertical resolution of tropospheric ozone profile retrievals from the combination of simulated ultraviolet (UV) and thermal infrared (TIR) observations that are representative of the EOS Aura Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) and the Tropospheric Emission Spectrometer (TES). Under the low thermal contrast conditions used for this simulation, we find...
